"Some
Talk It - I Live It" is the first of a two book memoir
about Fred James Staves a.k.a. "Gangsta", who
by the age of seven becomes fascinated by the street life
and dress codes of all the older gang members in the city
of Watts, from the way they walked to the way they talked.
At the age of nine, Fred and his family moved out of to
the City of Watts and into the City of Compton. Growing
up Fred always felt more comfortable hanging with the older
homies. He became good friends and eventually best friends
with one in particular by the name of "Turtle".
But by hanging with his older homies, Fred moves into a
neighborhood that would soon bring disappointments, deceptions,
cheating and pain. He had no idea what the street life would
soon bring his way. At eleven Fred joins a the biggest and
most notorious gang in Compton known as "MTC"
(which is short for "Mid Town Crips) and since everyone
of his fellow gang members had nick names , Fred is dubbed
"Baby Gangster". Because of his age he only known
as a "baby" crip, but he is still bound by the
same codes of the streets as eveyone else. Soon after "Baby
Gangster" joins the "MTC's", they connect
with another local gang to create an even larger gang known
as "Santana Blocc Crips" or "SBC" for
short. Soon "Baby Gangsta" is introduced to the
real cold gangbanging life. A world of drugs (from selling
small bags to big quanities), stealing cars, robbery, lowriding
and women.
